A visit with Hubert Schriebl

We are currently working on Witness, an incredible book spanning four decades of snowboarding photography and Hubert Schriebl is one of our featured photographers. As deadlines fastly approached and images were desperately needed, I couldn’t think of a better solution that to visit my old friend and look through is archives to make final selections. It took about 3 hours or so to get there but the adrenaline I felt made it feel much less. I couldn’t wait to see all the legendary content that Hubert had been sitting on for so many years. We arrived a bit early and Hubert greeted us with that huge smile we have all come to love. Hubert took us into this little nook and began to show us every camera he ever shot with. I was blown away that he still had his first 35mm camera which was this Voigtlander that I had never seen before. He proceeded to give us a tour of his place showing us his office and where he keeps his archives. First of all let me just say, this guy has shot a TON of Amazing content. I felt like a kid in a candy store as I began to go through some of his filing cabinets and boxes labled “80s Snowboarding”. Although I had only a few hours to look through them all, I managed to find several never before seen images that our community will be over the moon about. Can’t wait for everyone to see the book and Hubert’s incredible contribution.
