ESA x BURTON
HAND MADE.
When East Street Archives went from an idea to a conversation to a completed project, it was an uplifting and an inclusive journey that continues today. Revisiting a historical time in snowboarding, in a specific region, meant there would be memories and stories pouring in. And it was needed. As the new book took shape, many ideas to promote it and celebrate it began to occur. One particular idea was to produce snowboards that pay homage to the time, riding, and Gary’s photography from the 90’s.
Works of art that would last forever.
Gary reached out to lifelong friend, Designer, and snowboarding legend, Seth Neary for his creative direction and shared his vision for paying homage to a few riders from back in the day by putting them on a board. After a few months of emails, phone calls, and studio visits, the two of them landed on three unique boards that feature an east coast rider who was part of Gary’s inner circle and who impacted a generation of riders with their style, energy, and love for the sport. The appropriately named Hometown Hero 156 seemed like the perfect choice for the collection.
“All of these guys were rippers and influential in their own ways, Jeff Brushie is who inspired me to want to ride, Jim Kelly was my first friend on the hill and my first published image, and Jamil Khan was everyone’s friend and someone who was taken from us much too soon. He was a beacon of light whose legacy lives on in all of us.”, Says Land
Stepping into Craig’s Prototype Facility in Burlington, VT is a memorable experience. A laboratory of potential, machinery, and dedication, solely focused on producing the best snowboarding equipment. We teamed up with the helpful production crew and began the build process. Gary put on the protective gear and laid up a few boards himself. Hand Built. In Vermont. The results were nothing short of inspiring. A rare collection of snowboards that will represent East Street Archives and the riders - and the riding community - forever.
